A lot of AI. And a HLTH check.
š Healthcare through a Kentucky lens. It's niche. But neat! š

š Letās go!
HLTH drop
HLTH was last week in Vegas. There were a few folks from the āville in attendance, including Mamata Majmundar, MD, FAAFP, CPE, CHCQM. This is her feedback as a first-time attendee šļø
This was my first time attending HLTH, and it was excellent for human connection! As a physician and entrepreneur, I was energized to be surrounded by founders, investors and innovators from around the world shaping the future of healthtech. I had the chance to reconnect with clients, colleagues and friends Iāve met over the years, and to build new relationships including with people right in my own backyard [We see you, Rosa Hart!]. One of the most enlightening sessions for me as a physician and LinkedIn-only user was led by TikTok, highlighting how TikTok can be used to share trusted, bite-sized health information with the public. Itās a powerful reminder that how we connect with patients is evolving. HLTH is big (thousands of people!), but the team does a superb job making it manageable and engaging. Between the in person networking, CME opportunities and off-site events like AgeTech Connect, it was an excellent experience. Nothing replaces real conversations and HLTH was full of them.

Menlo Ventures on AI in healthcare
This is an interesting survey of 700+ executives from Menlo Ventures on AI adoption in healthcare.
āHealth systems have shortened average buying cycles from 8.0 months for traditional IT purchases to 6.6 months, an 18% acceleration. Not all sectors are moving at this pace. Payers have seen buying cycles lengthen from 9.4 months to 11.3 monthsā¦ā Interesting.
Also interesting, Slingshot; āOur survey reveals that 85% of all generative AI spend in healthcare currently flows to startups rather than incumbents.ā
Speaking of AI
Thatās a big market, Slingshot.
Lonely seniors
From Forbes; āThe AI boom has brought with it a new crop of startups looking to build a business on an urgent but vaguely dystopian idea: solving loneliness among the elderly.ā
Our Humana friendsāand othersāmight recall Humana talking about loneliness among seniors as far back as 2017. So, yeah.
RCM
But, of note not really because itās in the RCM space. Rather, because Cincinnati-based Bon Secours Mercy Health appears to be doing alright, alright, alright.
